Passenger public transport insurance

Since 2013, everyone who is in public transport can not worry about getting injured or damaged baggage, because a special law came into force on 01/01/2013.

This is the Federal Law “On Compulsory Insurance of a Civil Liability of a Carrier for Damage to Life, Health, and Property of Passengers and on the Procedure for Compensation of Such Damage Caused While Carrying Passengers by the Metro” dated June 14, 2012, as amended.

What types of transport does passenger insurance cover?

The regulatory document says that passenger insurance is a prerequisite for the provision of services for the transport of people on all modes of transport, with the exception of car taxis .

People using taxi services do not have to worry about their safety. Regarding the passenger taxi, the carrier’s liability is regulated by other laws, one of which is Federal Law dated 08.11.2007 N 259-ФЗ “Charter of Automobile Transport and Urban Ground Electric Transport”.

If the passenger is injured and there is no insurance, the transport company must independently settle the matter with the victim. However, passengers should understand that insurance is paid only if they are injured in a subway car.

Insurance of passengers of buses today is especially important. Often, when traveling, people suffer damage in accidents and require assistance in treatment.

Approximately sixty organizations provide passengers with public transport insurance in the insurance market. Separately spend money on a special policy, passengers do not need to, because insurance is paid automatically when you buy a ticket.

If the carrier does not have insurance, and it is not documented that it is not responsible for the safety of passengers, then it will be deprived of a license and will be fined to reach 1 million rubles.

The amount for which passengers are insured in public transport

Tariffs are completely different for different types of transport. The biggest cost is on the sea and it ranges from 22.48 rubles to 45.25 rubles. The cheapest insurance in suburban trains , their size becomes 0.07-0.15 rubles.

Payments from insurers are made to the injured person or his family. All payments are made only after it was proved that the death or injury of the passenger occurred while traveling by bus, train, plane or other form of public transport.

If a person died while traveling, his relatives should be paid compensation in the amount of 2,000,000 rubles. The same amount is paid to victims who after the accident received group I disability, or whose children became disabled.

In addition, the company must pay for the property of passengers, which was also damaged.

Documents confirming the insured event

The main document confirming that the person was a passenger of the transport, which had an accident, is a travel ticket. Therefore, do not rush to throw out or knead the ticket until you get off the bus or other vehicle.

Bus ticket

This ticket shows the numbers by which you can find all the information about the carrier. If this document has been lost, the insurance company may use other evidence confirming that injuries to the injured were received in the vehicle. For example, such evidence is video surveillance.

The insurer in any case will pay the damage, but only after verifying all the facts of the accident.

Where to go and who to contact when receiving injuries due to an accident?

If the victim is denied his request, he can safely contact the transport supervision service. Due to the refusal to pay damages, the carrier may lose the license and will no longer be able to carry out its activities.
